
ENGIE Energía Perú has officially started construction on the Hanaqpampa solar project, a new solar-plus-storage facility located in southern Peru’s Moquegua region.
The development comprises a 140.8 MW solar photovoltaic plant paired with a 15 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), representing a total investment of over $127 million. The project is scheduled to achieve commercial operation in the first quarter of 2028.
Equipped with more than 200,000 solar modules, the Hanaqpampa project also includes a dedicated 220/33 kV substation and a 15.5 km, 220 kV transmission line, which will connect the renewable energy asset to Peru’s national power grid.
During the construction phase, the project is set to generate more than 400 local jobs. Throughout its operational lifespan, it is projected to help avoid over 1.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, supporting Peru’s clean energy and decarbonization goals.
The new project strengthens ENGIE’s renewable footprint in Moquegua, where the company already operates the Intipampa solar plant and its expansion, holding a cumulative installed solar capacity of 91.7 MW in the region.
