Vietnamese renewable energy developer VinEnergo has officially entered the Philippine renewable energy market via a strategic partnership with local solar EPC firm SunAsia Energy to jointly develop 422MWp of floating solar photovoltaic (PV) projects across the country.
Under the collaboration, the two parties will deliver three utility-scale floating solar projects, scheduled for commissioning between 2027 and 2028. The project portfolio comprises a 181MWp floating solar plant in Macabebe, Pampanga, as well as two facilities in Negros Occidental — a 126MWp project in Sagay and a 115MWp installation in Silay.
The upcoming projects will deploy nearly 700,000 solar modules installed on pile-supported overwater structures. The innovative design enables continuous aquaculture activities underneath the solar arrays, realizing complementary development of clean energy production and food cultivation. Additionally, the project bundle entails the construction of approximately 62 kilometers of new transmission lines covering Pampanga and Negros regions to support power delivery.
In the next 18 months, the two companies will focus on preliminary preparatory work including project engineering design, technical solution selection and contractor procurement to lay the groundwork for official construction.
The partnership echoes the Philippine government’s strategic goals of scaling up renewable energy capacity, enhancing national energy security, and promoting integrated solar-aquaculture development models.
Financial details of the cooperation have not been disclosed. ING served as the financial advisor for VinEnergo on the transaction, while local firm SGV & Co. provided advisory services to SunAsia Energy.
