Eni Storage Systems, the joint venture between Eni Industrial Evolution and FIB (Seri Industrial Group), has kicked off construction of a brand-new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery production hub in Brindisi, southern Italy.

Targeted primarily at stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS), the Brindisi plant forms half of the joint venture’s dual-gigafactory capacity roadmap. Paired with Seri Industrial’s existing manufacturing site in Teverola near Caserta, the two facilities are set to deliver a combined annual output of 16 GWh by 2030, with production split evenly across both locations.

In its first operational phase, the Brindisi hub will produce LFP battery cells, modules and finished packs, integrating modules sourced from the Teverola gigafactory. A subsequent expansion phase will add two complementary vertical operations: local manufacturing of LFP cathode active material and end-of-life battery recycling. Both new production lines will supply material and circular services to support the full output of the two gigafactories.

Eni highlighted the Brindisi investment as its formal entry into the battery manufacturing value chain. Parallel to the plant groundbreaking, the energy group has acquired an equity stake in Faenix, a Seri Industrial subsidiary tasked with commercialising all BESS products rolled out from the Teverola and Brindisi production bases.
