Serentica Renewables, a leading Indian independent power producer (IPP), has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 600 MW/2,400 MWh solar-plus-battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The firm claimed the largest capacity allocation among all bidders in SECI’s Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) VII tender.
Awarded for assured peak power supply to India’s interstate transmission system (ISTS), the tender mandates a total guaranteed peak delivery of 4,800 MWh (1,200 MW × four hours) daily. Under the finalized PPA, Serentica Renewables will deliver 2,400 MWh of firm peak power per day via a co-located solar and BESS facility, covering half of the total tender’s peak supply requirement.
Distinct from conventional renewable energy tenders, the FDRE VII framework requires power supply exclusively during non-solar hours, precisely catering to India’s surging evening peak electricity demand and bolstering national grid stability. The project is bound by rigorous performance benchmarks, including a 70% monthly demand fulfilment ratio (DFR) and an 85% annual DFR, ensuring consistent and reliable clean power delivery during critical peak consumption periods.
The long-term PPA formalizes the offtake arrangement and clears the way for full project development, which is set to deliver substantial environmental and operational benefits. Upon completion, the project will generate approximately 975 million units of renewable electricity annually and offset over one million tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
“This project demonstrates how integrated renewable generation and storage can reliably serve peak demand while supporting grid stability,” said Akshay Hiranandani, CEO of Serentica Renewables.
