
German renewable energy developer Maxsolar has secured contracts for two grid-supporting battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Bavaria, rolling out a strategic regional storage cluster in partnership with global energy storage supplier Sungrow.
The first project is a 25 MWh, five-hour BESS located in Wutzldorf, connected to the Bayernwerk distribution network. Developed in compliance with Section 11a of Germany’s Energy Industry Act (EnWG), the facility is set to commence operation in the coming weeks. Sungrow fully delivered its advanced PowerTitan 2.0 BESS solution for the Wutzldorf site by the end of June this year.
Once operational, the intelligent battery system will adopt optimized charge and discharge strategies to ease pressure on local power grids, especially during peak solar power generation periods. The project serves as a key foundational component of Maxsolar’s regional battery storage cluster strategy, laying a solid groundwork for the company’s distributed energy storage layout in Bavaria.
The two companies are also collaborating on a larger-scale 100 MWh grid-supporting battery project in Winterschneidbach, Bavaria. Adopting the same five-hour configuration as the Wutzldorf facility, the project is scheduled to receive Sungrow’s equipment deliveries in November. Designed as a pivotal pilot initiative, it aims to validate the vital role of battery storage in enhancing grid stability, boosting power system flexibility, and accelerating the integration of renewable energy sources.
Maxsolar stated that the Wutzldorf project marks a critical milestone in its regional BESS cluster development, while the larger Winterschneidbach project will demonstrate the scalable, cross-site value of grid-supporting battery storage technology.
