Impeto Impact has unveiled a tailored software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform designed to deliver comprehensive financial modelling for merchant battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, addressing the rising complexity of multi-market battery storage investments across Europe.

The innovative platform integrates five years of historical electricity market data alongside user-defined custom assumptions to generate robust financial models for merchant BESS assets. Adopting a rigorous forward-testing methodology, it leverages 1.3 million historical data points and incorporates key variables including electricity price trends, reserve market revenues and market volatility.

Capable of producing full-spectrum business case analyses covering conservative to optimistic scenarios, the platform delivers core financial metrics and financial statements, including net present value (NPV), internal rate of return (IRR), profit and loss statements, cash flow forecasts and balance sheet projections. Built specifically for merchant battery storage facilities that generate revenue across day-ahead, intraday and ancillary service electricity markets, the tool also accurately simulates 15-year battery degradation and dynamically adjusts revenue projections to adapt to evolving market conditions throughout the project lifespan.

Jim Lefèbre, Founder of Impeto Impact, emphasized the platform’s core value for industry investors. “Merchant battery storage projects are growing increasingly complex as market structures and revenue streams diversify. Our purpose-built modelling tool equips investors with a practical, adaptable solution that can be tailored to bespoke market assumptions, enabling data-driven investment decision-making,” he stated.

Developed in collaboration with a pilot customer and fully self-financed, the platform’s analytical methodology is grounded in joint research with Jonas Puck from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. The foundational research was published in the industry study Charging Ahead, which focuses on Austria’s battery storage market dynamics.

Currently deployed with early adopter customers in Austria, the SaaS platform is set for regional expansion in the coming months, with a launch into the German market planned for the near term. Beyond BESS financial modelling, Impeto Impact intends to roll out additional functional modules to help industrial clients optimize their electricity consumption profiles and improve energy efficiency.
