
The U.S. solar and energy storage industries racked up multiple landmark deployment and power generation milestones in the first half of 2026 amid growing national power consumption and higher retail power prices, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). The trade body confirms solar and storage have evolved from niche emerging assets into core pillars of America’s power grid, fueled by falling technology costs and fast buildout speeds.
SEIA data shows solar plus energy storage made up 91% of all newly added U.S. grid generation capacity in Q1 2026, an all-time quarterly high for the paired technologies. Solar has ranked as America’s top source of newly installed power capacity for five consecutive years, alongside runaway growth in utility-scale battery storage buildouts.

California has broken its solar output ceiling three times since June 1, 2026.
