
International power producer ContourGlobal has solidified a 3 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) supply agreement with Chinese battery giant CATL, advancing its 2026 expansion efforts across three key global projects.
The deal covers CATL’s widely used lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, set to power three of ContourGlobal’s flagship assets: the 500MW/2,000 MWh Wallace BESS project in Scotland (acquired in June and in advanced development), the 100 MW/400 MWh Taxiarches project in Greece (purchased as a ready-to-build asset in January), and the 90 MW/360 MWh battery component of the Los Maitenes hybrid solar-plus-storage project in Chile (paired with a 141 MW solar farm that recently commenced operations).
Under the agreement, CATL will supply 526 battery containers equipped with LFP cells, each boasting a 5.64 MWh capacity and configured for four-hour discharge durations. While peak power output details were not disclosed, each block is expected to deliver 1.4 MW, with CATL providing its liquid-cooled system integration technology for the deployments.
Backed by KKR, ContourGlobal operates 5.7 GW of renewable projects globally, with an additional 2 GW under construction. This latest deal follows a string of recent milestones, including a 1 TWh solar-storage power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tesla in Arizona announced weeks ago, and the acquisition of 9.5 GWh of BESS capacity in Italy in July 2025.
