
Noon Energy and Sabanci Renewables have sealed a joint venture agreement to jointly develop up to 1 GW of ultra long-duration energy storage (ultra-LDES) projects, aiming to deliver stable 24/7 renewable power for large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
The strategic collaboration combines Noon Energy’s advanced reversible-flow battery systems — capable of delivering over 100 hours of uninterrupted clean power — with Sabanci Renewables’ extensive utility-scale solar and wind project portfolio. The partnered ultra-LDES projects are expected to yield up to 100 GWh of energy storage capacity, with commercial deployment slated to kick off as early as 2027.
Noon Energy’s technology has been fully validated through prior pilot operations. Its reversible solid oxide fuel cell battery marks the world’s first fully containerized, modular ultra-LDES system with thousands of hours of operational experience, achieving an energy storage capacity exceeding 200 hours. Notably, the firm secured a 100 GWh technology reservation agreement with Meta in April 2026, underscoring the technology’s industry recognition.
Chris Graves, CEO of Noon Energy, emphasized the pivotal value of the partnership. “Partnering with an established and forward-thinking company like Sabanci Renewables marks a critical step in accelerating the path to commercialization for our ultra-LDES technology,” Graves stated. He added that the cooperation will build comprehensive commercial, technical and operational frameworks to unlock 100% reliable renewable grid power at a low per-kilowatt-hour cost via multi-day energy storage solutions.
All joint projects will be structured through power purchase agreements (PPAs) or capacity offtake agreements. Facilitated by Sabanci Climate Ventures — an investor in Noon Energy and affiliate of Sabanci Renewables — the collaboration targets the U.S. renewable energy market, with a primary focus on Texas’ ERCOT grid. Sabanci Renewables plans to build a 3 GW U.S. project pipeline in the next five years, currently operating and constructing four utility-scale solar plants in the ERCOT market with a combined capacity of 790 MWdc. Specific project sites for the new ultra-LDES initiatives have not yet been disclosed.
Driven by booming AI infrastructure expansion, demand for reliable, round-the-clock clean energy has surged. Ultra-LDES technology has become an indispensable solution to convert intermittent solar and wind power into stable, on-demand electricity, addressing the core energy pain point of the AI industry.
