
Alpiq has taken over Eco Power One GmbH, the project company owning the Bollingstedt battery‑energy‑storage‑system (BESS) in Schleswig‑Holstein, Germany, from developer Eco Stor. Financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed. Eco Stor will keep undertaking technical and operational management for the 103 MW/238 MWh utility‑scale battery asset.
Commissioned in June 2025, the Bollingstedt facility features one of Germany’s first Flexible Connection Agreements (FCA), negotiated with local grid operator Schleswig‑Holstein Netz (SH Netz). The grid‑access framework enables the battery to adjust its operation in response to real‑time available network capacity.
Building on this pioneering model, Eon plans to roll out FCA standards across its German distribution network operators by the end of the year. The group clarified that the framework will not adopt uniform parameters nationwide, but will incorporate regional grid conditions.
According to Eco Stor, the deal highlights that operational performance, market optimisation and grid‑connection solutions are gaining weight alongside raw installed capacity when valuing battery‑storage assets. “The Flexible Connection Agreement creates a reliable framework for operating the battery,” commented Jörn Rohland, CFO of Eco Stor.
The acquisition validates the FCA‑oriented development approach and signals advancing maturity within Germany’s large‑scale battery‑storage market. It also demonstrates that project predictability and grid‑supportive operation can be realised simultaneously for utility‑scale storage deployments.
This transaction deepens the existing partnership between Alpiq and Eco Stor. The two parties previously sealed a tolling agreement for the Schuby battery‑storage project at the end of 2025. Eco Stor noted that operational experience gained from running the Bollingstedt BESS will feed into its future utility‑scale storage development pipeline.
